Yeah, so it's no news to most people that know me that I am very active....I do Yoga and run and actually enjoy doing crunches and pushups...LOL!
Well, I started the Couch-to-5K (C25K) regiment about a month ago and then had to stop because it got so cold and damp. This past week has been absolutely gorgeous and warm so i figured I would give it a go again. I downloaded the C25K app on my iPhone and it was extremely nice because it plays all the songs in my phone and it also AUDIO coaches you...yes, you heard me right it tells me when to start, when to jog, when to brisk walk, everything...it keeps you on track the entire 30 minutes of your workout.
(Note: C25K is the training regiment most runners use to train for 5K's...it works you up to running a full 3 miles by starting you out alternating walking and running and gradually working out the walking part...its really interesting to read up on)
SO...on Sunday, I decided to strap on my Vibrams and head outside to take full advantage of the beautiful, warm weather:) I hit that C25K app and clicked GO and off I went...on a 3 mile journey. I am in pretty good shape considering all I do, and I never got winded (also credited to the alternating walking and jogging)..but after about 20 minutes I felt my calf muscles starting to tense up. I was worried I would catch a cramp, but I pushed through it and finished the last 10 minute leg of the run. As I was walking back down the driveway I noticed I was already a little sore in my calves but I figured I mean, I just did 3 miles...c'mon who WOULDN'T be sore!!! LOL
Well I woke Monday morning, ready to get the kids back in the school schedule after a nice Spring Break and when I went to stand up...my calf muscles gave way...I hobbled my way into the bathroom feeling like someone had taken a 9iron to my calf muscles in my sleep. I was on the verge of tears they hurt so bad! Oddly, my feet do not hurt nor do my thighs...it is JUST my calves.
So, Today (Tuesday), I am still having trouble walking and the pain is still intense...lesson learned...one mile a week...i will WORK my way up to 3miles instead of trying to win a marathon that doesn't even exist!!! LOL
